Abstract | There is considerable evidence that object-oriented design metrics can be used to make quality management decisions leading to substantial cost savings. However, one of the major impediments to the wider adoption of object-oriented metrics in practice has been the unavailability of robust and lowcost metrics analyzers. Commercial tools tend to collect basic size metrics and many variants of these size metrics. Other potentially powerful coupling metrics are typically not collected. This report is the user manual for a publicly available open-source metrics analyzer for the C++ and Java languages. This analyzer collects a set of design metrics that have been empirically demonstrated to be beneficial for making quality management decisions in practice. |
