Abstract | The concepts relevant to quantum cellular automata and quantum computers are studied using a simple model of a quantum exclusive-OR (QXOR) gate device consisting of four coupled quantum dots. The QXOR device can be charged with up to N = 8 electrons. The quantum bits of the device correspond to states of the device in second quantized form. We use exact diagonalization techniques in the configuration space to calculate physical properties of QXOR as a function of the number of electrons N and external perturbations in the form of electric and magnetic fields. This allows us to investigate the switching of the QXOR gate, and its ability to store and transmit information. |
