Abstract | A series of dynamic positioning tests were carried out in beam and head seas in IMD's towing tank using an existing tanker model as a forerunner for the upcoming Terra Nova FPSO model tests. The objective was to establish an appropriate test procedure, identify the hardware and software requirements, identify the load ranges, identify possible problem areas, and develop/debug a control system in conjunction with the Institute for Aerospace Research. Tests were done in various combinations of wave, wind and current, which were collinear for the purpose of these "pilot" tests. In addition, stiffness tests (in morred condition) and decay tests (in morred as well as free-floating conditions) were carried out to establish the corresponding damping and restoring force coefficents. |
