Abstract	This paper presents a two zone model for calculating smoke movement in multi-compartment multi-level buildings (FIERAsmoke) that has been developed at the Fire Risk Management (FRM) program of the Institute for Research in Construction. This model will become a sub-model of the FRM's risk, analysis model FIERAsystem, which is a model that evaluates the life risks and property losses from fires in buildings. The paper also presents and discusses a comparison of the results of the model to experimental data. The experimental data were obtained from tests performed at NRC to investigate the effectiveness of atrium smoke exhaust systems. The comparisons indicate that the model can predict well hot layer temperatures, CO, concentrations and interface heights.
