Abstract | Callus from Nicotiana glauca GRAH., N. langsdorfii WEINM. and from their sexual (amphiploid) and somatic hybrids were examined for isozymes by polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic techniques. Zymograms were obtained for three dehydrogenases (lactate, glutamate and alcohol) for aminopeptidase and for esterase. Each enzyme exhibit distinct and consistent bands. Somatic hybrids as well as the amphiploid could be distinguished from the parents when the combined zymogram of lactate and alcohol dehydrogenase was used. The zymograms obtained for the aminopeptidase clearly demonstrated differences between hybrids and the parents. The growth, flowering habits and the tendency for tumorization of the plants derived from the somatic hybrid all were similar to those of the amphiploid. |
