Abstract | In 1929 the first Director of the Division of Applied Physics brought with him a strong interest in ultrasonics, thereby opening a line of research activity in the field of acoustics which has grown in scope and in breadth ever since. Currently, research in acoustics is active within five National Research Council (NRC) Institutes. This paper surveys the pursuit of acoustics in these laboratories. |
