Abstract | This report describes a series of experiments carried out at the OEC to understand the factors affecting the measurement of planing hull performance in waves. Experiments were made with data collected at several sample rates, and the optimum sample rate was found. The method of measuring phase angle between model motion and the wave crest was checked, and its accuracy determined. Finally, a set of experiments was carried out to compare the OEC model results with some published data for a geometrically similar model tested in another basin. It was found that the agreement with the previously published results was good, provided proper attention was paid to sampling rates for data collection. |
