Abstract | Safety against capsizing in heavy seas is one of the major concerns of ship operators and designers. Scientists and naval architects have tachled the problem for many years, yet the mechanism of ship capsizing in heavy seas is still not fully known or understood. As a result, there is no mathematical model ofr the general case of ship capsizing in extreme waves, not have stability criteria been established on such a theoretical model. The extremely complex physical nature of the capsize phenomenon and the large number of possible scenarios are the main reasons for this situation. |
