Abstract | Patch management is an important part of an organization's security strategy. Patch management refers to the method of distributing, tracking, and recording the installation of necessary software patches for computers. Software Update Services (SUS) simplifies patch management by providing a central location for patch distribution. It enables network administrators to control distribution as well as track and record the installation of security updates by computers running particular Microsoft Windows operating systems. This report provides an introduction to patching and describes the installation, setup, and usage of Software Update Services (SUS) version 1.0 with Service Pack 1 for use within the Institute for Ocean Technology. |
