Abstract
The results of two series of exterior exposure tests of clear finishes of known composition are given. In the first series phenolic varnishes, alkyd resin solutions, and epoxy ester solutions were exposed. The second set, in addition to phenolics and alkyds, included cold-cured epoxies, urethanes and, for comparison, pigmented stains. The durability ratings are discussed in relation to composition and some of the properties of the materials. Preparation of exposed clear finishes for recoating and subsequent exposure results are described.
