Abstract
The use of underground space is rapidly growing in several areas of the world. Important new developments with respect to certain activities in subsurface space have resulted in increased energy conservation and merit widespread attention. This paper discusses a number of examples of the use of underground space in Canada and in several other countries and stresses the important role of local geology in future considerations on the use of underground space.
