Abstract | Light-scattering from magnons in Bi-doped yttrium iron garnet (YIG) is found to have a lineshape that depends strongly on the excitation wavelength. At excitation wavelengths in the blue region, a subsidiary peak in the spectrum occurs in addition to the main one-magnon peak. A theory is presented to account for this lineshape behavior in terms of density-of-states effects and the kinematics of light scattering in an absorptive semi-infinite magnetic medium. Information on the pinning parameter for this sample is thereby obtained. |
