Abstract | A dual column gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) technique that uses two parallel fused silica capillary columns of different polarity is described. Retention data from the dual system is shown to have no greater variance than that from single column systems. A practical application using this technique is presented to confirm the identity of the sex pheromone of the w-marked cutworm. The advantages of this technique are discussed, particularly for the identification of positional and/or geometrical isomers that have identical mass spectra. |
