Abstract	This paper shows that by decomposing the flanking path into these five factors, and measuring the change in each due to adding the topping, it is possible to completely characterize the floor-floor path (the dominant flanking path in light weight constructions) by applying a floor topping in only a single room. Comparison of results from the traditional approach and the new approach show excellent agreement. The benefits of the new approach based on the five-factor method are the reduced test duration and cost, as well as the improved repeatability.
