Abstract | Elsie Gregory MacGill, P.Eng., made significant contributions in the field of the engineering. She had completed graduate studies in the field, conducted research, worked as a professional, and introduced new innovatives, including the design of an entire aircraft. She worked as an aeronautical engineer at the Canadian Car and Foundry plant in Fort William, Ontario. MacGill introduced the mass production techniques to the aviation industry, modifying the Hurricane for winter use, and establishing standards for test pilot reporting. She also worked as the chair of a United Nations aviation technical committee. She was known as the first woman in the country to receive a degree in electrical engineering in 1927 and also to be admitted as full member in the Engineering Institute of Canada. She became the first woman to earn a master's degree in aeronautical engineering, the United States in the year 1929. |
