Abstract | This paper describes a computer program used as part of a system to manufacture propellers for model testing purposes. The PARAPROP program provides a simplified method for developing the propeller geometry by using a parametric design methodology. The parameters used to define the propeller geometry are entered by the user in response to queries made by the program and a three dimensional CAD model of the desired propeller is developed automatically. The CAD model of the propeller is then input to other programs to generate detailed design drawings and to create templates for manufacturing a wooden pattern of the propeller. The wooden pattern is subsequently used to make the female mould from which a bronze propeller is cast. The background leading to the development of the PARAPROP program is discussed in the paper. The structure and methodology of the program is described and the results obtained from manufacturing a propeller are illustrated. |
