Abstract | The absorption of moisture by building materials is of great interest in Canadian construction practice because of the tendency of almost all such materials to swell to some extent, as their moisture content increases. The forces developed when different elements of a building swell to different extents have all too often been responsible for damage, often severe, to structural and finishing components. |
