Abstract | The offloading of oil from a Floating Production and Offloading (FPSO) vessel to a tanker requires that the two vessels must remain in close proximity to each other for extended periods of time. This is accomplished with the aid of Dynamic Positioning Systems aboard both vessels under the overall supervision of the ship's human operators. This paper describes the progress thus far in the development of an automated supervisory system to control both vessels based on a discrete event controller. Preliminary results from a model test at the Institute for Marine Dynamics are also presented. |
