Abstract
Preliminary results are reported for a typical high-performance expoxy-graphite composite system (Narmco 5208/C3000) using three techniques which up to now have not been widely used for such materials. It is shown that : (1) Reversed-phase HPLC with 3 μm packings gives a three-to-four-fold reduction in analysis time and solvent consumption, without significant loss of information, as compared to column based on 5 μm packings; (2) Pyrolysis gas chromatography has potential as a technique for characterizing the degree of cure of prepegs; and (3) Diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy can be used to obtain excellent spectra of uncured and cured prepeg with practically no sample preparation.
