Abstract | The problem of house damage caused by trees extracting moisture from shrinkable clays beneath foundations is reviewed. The effects of the structure of the clays, of the dryness of the growing season, and of the species of tree growing in the vicinity of the house on the intensity of damage are briefly reviewed. |
