Abstract | In this report we shortly review methods for polarization mode dispersion (PMD) characterization proposed by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with a focus on the polarimeteric based method. The first step is the measurement of the Stokes vector after the device under test (DUT). The quarter wave plate polarimeter used for the Stokes vector measurement is described in detail. Comparison among different PMD method is presented and the effect of the Stokes vector noise on the differential group delay (DGD) calculation with the Jones Matrix Eingenanalysis (JME) and Poincare Sphere Analysis (PSA) is investigated. Experimental measurement with three methods (PSE, SOP, FA) are presented. |
