| Abstract | Methodologies for performing modal analysis of a flexible structure vibrating in a fluid were developed and implemented by interfacing the SDRC I-DEAS software of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the HYDROPAN program at the Institute for Marine Dynamics. A case study involving a thin walled cylindrical shell partially submerged in water was used to demonstrate the various steps involving a "dry" mode analysis, inclusion of the added mass effect and the subsequent "wet" mode analysis. Natural frequencies were determined for the in vacuo and submerged cases. |
