Abstract | Good design detail is necessary for the control of rain penetration of masonry walls. The development of an effective design detail requires understanding of the environment to which the proposed building will be exposed and the properties of the materials that will be used in its construction. Architectural detail that will direct water away from vulnerable areas is desirable. The effects of exposure on masonry, cracking, control joints, anchorage, flashing and weep holes are discussed. |
