| Abstract | Results of finite element based stress and fracture mechanics analyses carried out on the sixth stage compressor spacer of the J85-CAN-40 engine using three dimensional models are presented. It was established that bolt holes located at both, forward and aft, spacer flanges are the fracture critical locations. Stress intensity factors for cracks emanating from these bolt holes change only moderately with crack lengths. |
