Abstract
In recent years concerns have arisen about the quality of indoor air as it affects human health, safety and comfort in offices, residences, schools and ice arenas. It has been discovered that in many buildings, pollutants are originating indoors and, with reduced ventilation rates, are now occurring at much higher concentrations than outdoors. This paper discusses the chemical and biological hazards that have been identified, the ventilation and pollutant standards and guidelines that are emerging, the major issues requiring resolution, and the social and market opportunities now apparent.
