Abstract	A 5kW, second-generation, solid oxide fuel cell for a residential application was tested. Heat from the fuel cell was used for space and hot water heating, and electricity was sent to and from the grid. The project examined residential combined heat and power issues such as thermal storage, grid connection, optimal fuel cell sizing, natural gas use, electricity and heat outputs, contribution to space and hot-water heating, and supplementary heat (natural gas) requirements.
