| Abstract | Reliable activity measurements of Yttrium-90 (Y-90) microspheres are critical for quantitative dosimetry and patient safety in liver radioembolization. Recent multicentre studies have identified systematic discrepancies between vendor-stated and independently measured Y-90 activities for both glass and resin microspheres, suggesting inconsistencies in calibration traceability across institutions. The NRC developed a mock glass microsphere standard designed to replicate the geometry and composition of clinical sources to address these metrological challenges. This paper summarizes the background of observed discrepancies, outlines the NRC approach for mock standard development and discusses implications for future standardization efforts. |
