Abstract
The paper presents the background to the introduction of energy-related regulation in the construction industry over the last 50 years. This is followed by a more in-depth comparison of the differing approaches that have been taken in the energy conservation area by some of the leading countries outside of Australia. The regulatory frameworks in which these codes have been developed and incorporated are also discussed along with observations on the level of adoption that has been achieved.
