| Abstract | This report describes testing done at the request of the Province of Alberta, Consumer and Corporate Affairs Department on the "Road- Hugger", a device purporting to be an automatic balancer for automobile wheels. Descriptive literature from the vending company is appended. The device consists essentially of a hollow plastic ring, of semicircular cross-section, which is attached to the front wheel disc of an automobile so that the ring is concentric with the wheel. The hollow plastic ring is partially filled with a petroleum based fluid and many small steel balls. Table 1 lists the physical characteristics of the "Road-Hugger". An almost identical device marketed under another trade name has previously been tested by NRC, see Reference 1. |
