Abstract | The accurate calibration of fluid metering devices poses many problems, yet there are many kinds of laboratory studies which depend on the ability to measure fluid flow accurately. Recognizing that the establishment of a suitable primary standard could be both difficult and time-consuming it was decided to accept as an interim laboratory standard a series of commercial flowmeters offered with special calibration. These were not found to be accurate and in the course of checking them it was possible to examine the flow characteristics of steel pipes with a view to using them as a calibration device. The results obtained are now reported. |
