Résumé | The pulsed laser approach to surface glazing is analyzed. A heat transfer model is used to evaluate the melt depth and temperature obtained with different laser inputs. Laser parameters such as pulse shape and duration are discussed in terms of energy efficiency and molten material behaviour. Results obtained by surface melting of either uncoated or coated surfaces with a pulsed CO₂-TEA laser are discussed. Bulk samples are surface melted while coatings are either shallow or fully densified. Optical integration methods to improve the laser beam coupling efficiency, uniformity and process monitoring reliability are presented. The possibility of real-time thermographic evaluation during the pulsed laser treatment is analyzed. |
