| Résumé | A compressed air gun has been designed to fire a 4 lb. bird at speeds up to-1000 ft./sec. The gun incorporates a firing system in which a suddenly applied pressure bows a rubber diaphragm to unseal the reservoir from the barrel. The diaphragm returns to its initial position after the firing. The disadvantage of replacing a burst diaphragm in the more conventional type of gun is thus overcome — provided the rubber has longevity. The barrel length, bore and maximum reservoir pressure are, respectively, 50 ft., 6.125 in. and 200 p.s.i.a. |
