Résumé | There is a growing necessity to better characterise metal powder feedstocks used in additive manufacturing (AM). The detection of contaminant particles, or foreign objects, has gained interest among users, especially for applications in highly regulated fields. A method developed at NRC to quantify the level of contaminants in AM metal powders using microfocused x-ray computed tomography (µXCT), it starting to be adopted by AM users and metal powder producers. Recently, a new class of phantom object has been developed to support the qualification of laboratories desiring to perform µXCT inspection of metal feedstocks. The results of a round robin where a reference phantom object was inspected at four different laboratories are presented. A discussion on the reproducibility of the results obtained on different systems is made, in particular the influence of the µXCT equipment and of the image analysis software. |
