Résumé | Corrosion of reinforcing steel has been identified as the leading cause of reinforced concrete (RC) infrastructure deterioration in North America. Global warming accelerates both reinforcement corrosion initiation and propagation. Furthermore, global warming could lead to higher freeze-thaw cycles (FTC) frequency in cold regions, affecting structural performance and service life of aging concrete infrastructures. In the present study, comprehensive corrosion and frost damage models are adopted from the literature. A three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis using the finite element program Diana is developed to evaluate the structural performance of RC bridge piers under synergistic effects of FTCs, corrosion, and traffic loading. The proposed methodology is assessed by comparisons with available test data from the literature. |
