Résumé | The effect of the free surface is of great interest for marine technology, however including the free surface in computational fluid dynamic (CFD) predictions complicates the problem. This study examines the processes needed to include the free surface in CFD predictions for a simplified ship hull at yaw angles up to 40 degrees. The CFD predictions were compared to experiment data whenever possible and to predictions for the same flow conditions in a fluid with no free surface. The results are compared using calculated force coefficients, flow patterns and where applicable, free surface wave profiles. |
