Résumé | Wind tunnel tests were performed to investigate the effects of mounting a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) pod on the CF-18 aircraft fuselage centerline. A full-scale subsonic test measured the vibration level of the FLIR pod installation in the wake of the aircraft nose landing gear during take-off and landing conditions. A 6%-scale test measured the effects of the FLIR pod on adjacent captive stores (AIM-120 assembly, 500-lb, and 2,000-lb bombs), and the aircraft engine mass flow rate at transonic flight conditions. Both tests provided confidence that the effects due to the FLIR pod installation were within acceptable limits, resulting in the commencement of flight testing. |
