| Résumé | The laser-ultrasonic reverberation technique is used to monitor the ultrasonic absorption during annealing of low carbon steel. Results show a monotonic increase of the absorption during the isothermal annealing as well as a strong variation with temperature. The main mechanism responsible for ultrasound absorption is identified as a magnetoelastic effect. This effect is sensitive to both recovery and recrystallization, suggesting that an absorption based sensor could be built to monitor annealing. Correlations of ultrasonic absorption with metallographically evaluated recrystallized fraction as well as with hardness are also reported. |
