| Résumé | Canada's built environment is entering a decisive period. Aging public and private assets, rising lifecycle costs, climate commitments, and persistent productivity challenges are exposing the limitations of traditional, document-centric delivery models—particularly for complex renovation, rehabilitation, and renewal projects. Fragmented processes, siloed teams, and reactive decision-making are no longer sufficient.
This report presents a practical industry framework for accelerating digital transformation in renovation and renewal using Building Information Modeling (BIM), open standards, and structured information management, informed by lessons from the Place du Portage III renewal context.
BIM is positioned not as a software tool, but as a collaborative information-management framework spanning the full asset lifecycle—from planning and design through construction, handover, operations, maintenance, and future retrofits. When implemented using recognized standards such as ISO 19650 and openBIM formats (IFC, BCF, COBie, and IDS), BIM enables reliable, reusable, and auditable data that improves coordination, reduces rework, strengthens handover readiness, and supports long-term asset performance. |
