| Résumé | The silica gel bed located in Bldg. M-10 was used to dry the engine intake air during icing tests on a PT6 engine. The the engine intake air during icing tests on a PT6 engine. The air requirements for these tests were vastly different from those for which the drying bed was designed, namely 5 lb./sec. vs. 100 Ib./sec. For this reason, a series of modifications to the regeneration system and cycle was necessary to obtain air of sufficiently low humidity or dew point. The main modifications were the installation of an axial fan which permitted reversal of the cooling air flow direction, and the extension of the heating period from 8 to about 18 hours which resulted in an elevation of the silica gel temperature. Finally, air with dew points in the order of -20°F was available for extended periods. |
