Abstract | From the study carried out by the consultant and discussions with external codes related groups that there is a clear demand for the computerisation process of the code documents to continue. Within the code section it is clear that there is a considerable scope for enhancing the code development process by the development and application of a document database system. At the same time it is also clear that there is a limit to the amount of change that can take place in terms of the evolving computer environment without a risk of serious disruption to the code development process. We therefore propose a gradual change in the computer based tools provided to the codes personnel along with the apointment of a systems manager (part time for the first 3 years) to maintain the database system and to support the codes personnel. During the final two years of the codes cycle the system manager should become full time and assume the additional role of document editor/coordinator for final publications. |
