Abstract | Melatonin has been widely reported to be an effective antioxidant. Studies of its ability to inhibit the autoxidation of lipids in homogeneous solution and in model heterogeneous systems show that melatonin is not a peroxyl radical trapping antioxidant. In contrast, melatonin can inhibit metal ion-catalyzed oxidation processes. |
