Abstract | More and more hypermedia platforms are created to fill the needs of distance education and online learning. The Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) allows for the digital representations of a 3D environment, replicating a realistic world in which the learner can interact with others through an avatar. A study was conducted with 40 learners in order to measure the effects of such a 3D environment with avatars on their sense of belonging to the group as well as on the general retention rate. The learners using the 3D platform have declared a higher sense of belonging than those using a traditional online platform. |
