Abstract | Northern organic terrain (muskeg) has come to be recognized as the most difficult medium in Canada to traverse. In many cases it is not simply a transitory problem for engineering implementation, it is a constant limiting factor to progress for northern development. It adds millions of dollars as a coat barrier to oil exploration, deters mining in general, controls comrnunication and community development and year by year becomes increasingly significant in the forestry industry. |
